About Our Books

Alphabet Animal Tales is a series of unique picture books dealing with common characteristics, habits, and traits that can cause academic and social difficulties for children. The entertaining, brightly illustrated stories encourage reflection and sharing between child and adult, helping to raise awareness of issues experienced by many kids and their peers.

A long time in the making, our series is the result of a mother & son team (Sandy & Scott) who think that there can be a lot more to children's books than just a fun story with nice pictures. While those items are important, we also want to encourage children to think about themselves and others, experience fun activities with their parents, and enjoy the familiar characters and events that may be present in their classroom's educational materials.

Each book within the series focuses on a single letter and animal character. All of our characters have tails (tales/tails, get it?) and a trait or attribute that many children posess, but isn't always the most desirable. The stories center on each character participating in activities and interacting with items that start with the chosen letter of the alphabet. Throughout all of this, we come to learn what it's like for our animal friends and how this might relate to ourselves or people we know.

The illustrations use a combination of traditional pencil, crayon, and marker techniques and merge them with digital elements to create a vibrant set of images. Through the use of strong outlines and crayon/pencil stylings, we're hoping to have a look that will be both familiar and different for all audiences. We're also big on encouraging imagination and creativity in children (and really anyone else for that matter) which is why we include children's work in our books and on the site. See the kids page for more information.

Finally, we're always looking to improve and welcome any ideas, suggestions, or comments. Thanks for reading!

About Us

sandy(As told by Scott) Saundra (Mom, Momma, Sandy) has always been drawn to helping others, especially children.

Along with marrying her high school sweetheart and raising three little munchkins of her own, she's been a lifelong registered nurse with 30+ years (we can't go giving away a lady's age now) experience. Among others, she's enjoyed time in newborn units, teaching Lamaze classes, and working with expectant parents and families.

An avid animal lover, she also enjoys traveling, volunteering, reading (who would have thought) and general family activities.

scott(As told by Sandy) Scott was the textbook definition of the "terrible two's" (for 3 years, no less) and only wanted to wear the same little pair of blue jeans everyday, everywhere!

Following in his father and brother's footsteps, he went to school for engineering. At Purdue University, he discovered that his passions lay elsewhere. So after graduation, he went on to earn his MFA in Art.

His toddler enthusiasm for running and climbing continues as he participates in outdoor adventure activities and races. Throughout all of this, he remains my little blue-eyed boy.
